Another way to look at the 12 Signs is by their MODE OF ACTIVITY

12 Signs - 3 Modes of Activity - 4 Signs in each Mode

       There are 3 Modes of Activity: CARDINAL FIXED and MUTABLE.

 The Ancient Alchemical Symbols are used for the 4 ELEMENTS. In 50 years of my study of astrology, I never saw symbols for the 3 MODES OF ACTIVITY until a few days ago. I created these about 20 years ago as a shorthand for my notes. To me, these symbols more accurately represent the energy visually of the 3 modalities. 

         

     A CARDINAL signs begin each Season. ARIES begins Spring, CANCER begins Summer, LIBRA begins Autumn and CAPRICORN begins Winter. 

    Cardinal signs begin things, they are idea people and leaders but they don't stick to them until the project is done. I see the MODE OF ACTIVITY as the angled straight line that just keeps going.

    FIXED signs are in the middle of the Season. They are TAURUS, LEO, SCORPIO and AQUARIUS.

    Fixed signs draw a circle around themselves and want to control what is in that circle. They are tenacious, they will stick to a project until it is finished. Naturally, I chose a closed circle for their symbol.

 MUTABLE signs are at the end of a Season. They are GEMINI, VIRGO, SAGITTARIUS and PISCES. 

    MUTABLE is the great negotiator because they come between the last FIXED sign and the next CARDINAL sign. They see things from all points of view which benefits others but leaves them with difficulty separating themselves from those around them causing them issues with poor boundaries.

    In astrology when 2 planets are 180 degrees from each other, they are said to be in opposition. This is the symbol for opposition.

  

    Visually this is what MUTABLE looks like to me. Always meeting in the middle between 2 opposites, the great negotiators. So, this is the symbol I created for MUTABLE.

    Just one more way to understand yourself and those around you.
